[yn ôl i’r brig]Charles Meehan Wagons
Charles Meehan was a coal merchant who worked out of Aberystwyth goods yard for much of the twentieth century. The company ran a number of dark green wagons out of Aberystwyth Yard. The wagons I have made are based on a photograph from around 1910 which appears in Cambrian Traders an informative book that lists with photographic illustrations the wagons that appeared on the Cambrian Railways system. The wagons in the photograph are six and eight plank wagons, but I am have been told that anything between four and eight plank variants of R.C.H. wagons were used by the company. For anyone interested another photograph appears of a Meehan wagon in the 1930's this time in Oswestry, Shropshire - this is in a slightly more simplified livery. The photograph is from Chester & North Wales Border Railways:A View From the Past.
These are recent models based on prototypes in photographs from the Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru (National Library of Wales), which you can see below and in the Inspiration and Research section.
